Tips Against Heat in Bed

Looking for tips against heat in bed? Zelesta is here to help. Nothing is as annoying as tossing and turning in bed, feeling uncomfortable, and just wanting a good night's sleep, but not being able to fall asleep because of the heat. You're not the only one – and unfortunately this is a recurring problem every summer. Because we understand better than anyone that a good night's sleep is the foundation of a rested and happy life, we've gathered six tips for you. This way, you'll keep a cool head from now on, even during the warmest nights. Say goodbye to poor sleep caused by, for example, a duvet that's too warm!
Keep your head cool
The first of our six tips against heat in bed is literally to keep your head cool. If you want to lose body heat, the best way to do it is through your head. This keeps the rest of your body cooler too. There are several ways to do this:
- Place a damp washcloth on your forehead.
- Put a cooling gel pad under your pillow and flip your pillow over when it gets too warm – et voilà, your pillow feels cool again.
- Get a special cooling pillow, such as you can find in our range of pillows.
Take a refreshing shower before bed
If you get into bed overheated, chances are you won't cool down easily. So take a refreshing shower right before you go to sleep. This gets rid of the heat you've built up during the day, and you'll step into bed feeling fresh. One thing to watch out for: don't shower too cold, just a bit cooler than you normally would. If you shower too cold, you give your body a boost that makes you feel wide awake again, preventing you from falling asleep.
Choose your bedding wisely
Many people sleep poorly because of a duvet that's too warm, without even realising that's the cause. In warm weather, nobody wants to lie under a thick down duvet. So choose your bedding wisely. Zelesta is always a smart choice thanks to its temperature-regulating properties. What's more, for extra cooling during hot days you can opt for a special lightweight summer duvet.
Sleep in pyjamas
The fourth piece of advice in our list of tips against heat in bed might not be what you'd expect. It may seem contradictory, but especially in warm weather it's wise to sleep in light pyjamas or a shirt. Why? Because pyjamas absorb sweat that would otherwise soak into your bedding or stay on your skin. This can actually cause your body to cool down too much, which can wake you up in the middle of the night. Choose light, breathable cotton nightwear and you'll sleep a lot better than without pyjamas!
Keep heat out of the bedroom
Prevention is better than cure – and that's true for our tips against heat in bed too. Make sure, especially during the day, that you keep heat out of the bedroom. There are several ways to do this:
- Invest in a fan or air conditioning. Do make a considered choice here – air conditioning is fairly expensive, and some people may experience dry skin or respiratory issues from the dry air it produces. A fan blows air from back to front, so especially when you place it in front of an open window, it can create a cooling effect in the room.
- Keep the bedroom as dark as possible during the day. Simply closing the curtains or blinds already makes a big difference.
- Open the windows in the morning and evening. The air outside is coolest then, allowing the bedroom to air out.
- Switch off electrical devices in the bedroom. Televisions, computers, and lamps all give off heat. So make sure you switch them off during the warm summer months when they're not in use.
Sleep alone
Another one of our less fun tips against heat in bed, especially for people with a partner or pets welcome in the bedroom, is that in warm weather you're really better off sleeping alone. This keeps your body temperature cooler and you'll likely sleep more soundly. Would you still rather sleep together? Then try to stay on your own side as much as possible so you don't pick up your partner's body heat
Say hello to a good night's sleep – even when it's hot!
