Washing a quilted duvet: what you need to know

A quilted duvet is characterized by its even filling, which is held in place by the quilt seams. This makes quilted duvets easier to maintain, but more difficult to wash – although there are differences depending on the filling.

• Microfibre quilted duvets: Washable at 60 °C, often also suitable for the dryer. Ideal for people with allergies.
• Down or feather beds: Gentle wash at 30–40 °C with a special down washing product. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry thoroughly (preferably in the dryer with tennis balls).

Tip: Always pay attention to the washing label and wash the duvet – if possible – in a large drum (7 kg+) so that it can move freely.

Which washing machine do you use to wash a duvet?

Not every washing machine is suitable for large duvets. For a duvet of 135x200 cm, a drum of 7–8 kg is usually sufficient. For larger sizes such as 200x220 cm, professional cleaning or a large drum at the launderette may be a sensible option.

Don't forget to dry

After washing, the quilted duvet must dry completely so that no moisture remains in the filling - otherwise there is a risk of mold or a musty smell. Ideal: tumble dry at a low temperature with dryer balls, or outside in the fresh air with sufficient time.
